TOP 5 SUSTAINABLE ACTIONS AT TOKYO 2020 OLYMPIC GAMES

Tokyo Olympic games 2020 has been played focusing a big sustainability plan. Here a top 5 of actions taken to recude wastage and CO2 emission :

1- INOLVING CITIZENS IN A SUSTAINABLE PLAN

All the olympic medals were made with recycled electronic tools donated by the citizens trough the year.

Olympic torches instead were built with aluminum wastage created by the big hearthquake of 2011.

 

2- CHOOSING RENEWABLE POWER SOURCES

Electricity for the games was 100% generated by renewable rources.
Recycled use of rainwater has been adopted for the whole time period.

 

3- LOW IMPACT CONSTRUCTIONS AND ACCOMMODATIONS 

Tokyo chose to use pre existing buildings for the games, and to create sustainable accommodations for hosting the athletes.
The olympic village was built with national timber wastage, and the beds made with cardboard!

 

4- CREATING NEW WITH RECYCLED MATERIALS 

Torchbeares uniforms were entirely made from plastic bottles, while podiums has been  printed with a 3D machine using plastic wastage! Plus all the good and items ised during the games will be properly discarded through a full recycling program.

 

5- MINIMIZING CO2 EMISSION TRANSPORTATION 

While they encouraged the use of free public transport, 100  hydrogen fuel cell buses shuttled athletes around the games.
Toyota also supplied 500 hydrogen-powered vehicles and hydrogen tanks.

 

As a plus The Olypic Forest, promoted by Tokyo Olypic 2020, will take place in Mali and Senegal and it will host 355.000 native plants.
